Chapter 10
There are 3 basic types of parenting styles: authoritarian parenting, permissive parenting, and authoritative parenting. Authoritarian parenting are basically known as the really strict parents, their word is not to be questioned. These types of parents enforce the rules and have strict punishment. Permissive parents are the complete opposite. They set no rules for their kids, are the friend rather than the parent, and have low expectations of maturity. Right in between authoritarian and permissive in authoritative. These types of parents set limits and enforce rules but also listen to their children at the same time. While reading this I thought of my own parents and my close friends parents are categorized them into these parenting styles. As for my own parents they fall under the authoritative parenting style. At the same time most of my friends parents also would fall under the same category as my parents. Its weird knowing how different parents raise they kid, yet still fall under the same parenting style.

I agree. I read other people's blogs about their parenting style being authoritative. I categorize my parents as being authoritative as well. However, the way that they explained their parenting styles is completely different than the way that I explain mine to people. My dad is very strict. He is one of my good friends and I do talk to my step mom about a lot of personal issues. She is my friend and parent at the same time. My friends say that their parent is very lenient and still enforces rules. My dad has no debating in what he thinks is right. If I have something to say it is considered "talking back". In an authoritative point of view, a parent listens to a child. That is why I am confused on whether my dad is authoritarian or authoritative. Reading everyones blogs and talking to my friends really shows me how much overlap there is between different families and the way that they view things. I always ask my roommates their thoughts before writing a blog because the discussion is so interesing.
