There are many things to think about when you are raising
children, not only do you have to think about your parenting styles but you
also need to think about the type of morals that you want to help your children
be influenced by. According to Jonathan Hedit there are 5 types of groups that
help influence moral development. After reviewing Hedit’s TED talk I agree that
they have a part in society’s morals. However, I also believe that there are
other influences. I think that personality has a lot to do with moral
development which then leads back to parenting styles. A child with Authoritarian
parents is more likely to rebel compared to a parenting using the Authoritative
style. This then relates to the Nurture and Nature aspects of development. Depending
on the environment and culture that the child is brought up in helps influence
the morals of that society, but can still be swayed by the way the parents
nurture their children. There are a lot of factors that can influence a child
in so many ways, and that’s why being a parent is so difficult. The more I learn
in this class the more I really sit down and think about how I want to raise my
child and how I’m going to achieve that.
