The Culture of Children; Week 8 Post 2

The culture of children is something that I don't think enough adults recognize as being valid. I think that a lot of adults, at least in my experiences, sort of dismiss any kind of "culture of children" as being silly or irrelevant. However, I'm sure we can all remember being children and feeling as though we had a very distinct culture aside from that of the adults in our lives. Culture of children is interesting because it's one of the first times in the life of a human where we're beginning to completely set ourselves apart from the adults in our lives. It's a true attempt at us establishing our own life, though of course it's minor compared to the steps we take as humans as we get older. I can think of my early school years and still remember certain aspects of that culture that we as children shared. Of course, I wonder, in reading this section of the textbook, if there is any way that I will be able to avoid being that parent that simply "doesn't notice" what styles or brands of clothing (for example) my children wants. I like to think that if you're a parent who understands the culture of children, you have a better chance of not falling into that trap of being the parent who "just doesn't understand" your child.
