Chapter 15
Something I found interesting about this chapter was the transition to a new school information on page 423. This caught my eye because I had to make a big transition from catholic school to public school. This is something that I related to because I was changing myself and also dealing with family problems. They said in the chapter that going through changes with yourself and your environment can cause a lot of stress. Which can lead to depression, eating disorders , self -injury because this interrupts in between the young adolescence period into the older adolescence period. Another interesting statement I found that related to me was "when students enter a new school with classmates and customs unlike those in their old school, minority students in particular may feel alienated and fear failure" (Benner & Graham, 2007). This I compare my life to , because when I was in catholic school I never had any diversity. Then when I went to public school I was the minority and came into an environment that was very diverse. I felt the exact same way, alienated and out of place. Eventually I got used to it , but I know exactly how it felt from transitioning from one school to another. This was something I connect to and found very interesting that transitioning schools can lead to depression and eating disorders, which I have experienced and I'm sure others have just from transitioning and changing into a completely different environment.
