Chapter 18-Stereotypes

In this post I'm gonna talk about some stereotypes. Everyone stereotypes whether we will agree to it or not but everyone does because we are human. I help at my sons preschool every Wednesday and I see kids play together because they are their friend. Little kids think everybody is their friend which I find wonderful but what happens after that stage is what I find appalling. Kids become mean and start placing others into these groups based on their race, their gender and among other things. As we grow, we grow opinions of each other that aren't true and are sometimes are biased because our friends are doing it. This goes with the saying "Don't judge a book by its cover" is like judging others before you know them. When I was in high school I got stereotyped as one of these teens. Which basically meant I got pregnant and had a baby in high school. I may have had a baby in high school but I graduated on time in high school with my class and I was ranked in the top half. It was not easy. I will always be known as the girl who got pregnant because no one thought I would be that girl. I was also stereotyped because I lost a parent in high school. Stereotypes can hurt someone's feelings no matter what age you are. It is human nature to judge someone before you get to know them. My best friend is 48 years old and lives with his parents because he got really ill and had to relearn how to do everything. His parents well adopted parents believe I don't know what loss feels like and claim that I didn't finish school when I clearly did. Some of these assumptions are based off others opinions of me. Stereotypes can hurt a person and we should learn to take example from the youngest generation because for right now they don't judge someone or treat them like they are nothing because of experiences they have gone through in  life. They aren't developed socially enough till about 5 then things change.
