Post 1 chapter 18

What I wanted to post about tonight was about the facts I learned in this chapter about college. How I view college is just somewhere to go before I get on to the real world. But I learned much benefit comes from going to college that I did not know before. These facts and statements can be found on page 508 and mid way through the chapter. One thing that shocked me was the statement "college correlates to better health, college graduates smoke less, eat better and more" (Berger 508.) This statement to me I could see true, but also the term "better health" doesnt diminish the stress of loans. I actually didn't know after college people go into a life change, because all the people I know who are out of college do nothing but stress and look more unhealthy. This actually gave me some insight and made me feel better because I know a lot of people now going along the wrong path and this makes me feel a sense of comfort that if they graduate they will change their lifestyle due to the new lengths of upcoming maturity. Also, this gives me hope because I am already stressing about loans and all I do is eat when I'm stessed. But maybe when I graduate I decide to make a lifestyle choice to better myself and my new life. I will consider not gaining 100 lbs after college. (Humor here). Next, another statement I found interesting is that "thinking becomes more reflective and expansive with each year of college (Perry, 1981). This shocked me because I am only in my second year of college and feel I am doing worse and not expanding my mind as much as I used to. I didn't know the more you led into college the more expansive your mind gets. Another interesting thing I learned was genders in college, I never knew there used to be more males (dominant) than females going to school back in the day. I thought everyone just went there with no gender dinomination; this gave me a good look to how our future of colleges was much different from the colleges back then. I don't want to make this blog too long for you guys, I just wanted to share that even though this may be obvious to some people, I learned a lot about colleges and how they changed and make us change along with it. Very interesting! This will continue on my second post on Saturday! :)
