During Chapter 19 I found that the section on Dimensions of
Love very interesting because of the fact that I am in a long distance relationship.
There are three stages that are explained, the first being passion. This is
when the couple starts to gall for one another because of emotional, physical
and cognitive excitement due to the fact of your hormones and neurons being initiated.
I found this interesting because I remember reading a huffington post about how
when two people kiss your brain signals a chemical to be realized creating that
kind of “spark” or arousal. The next stage is called intimacy. Intimacy is not
just about sex but it is also about sharing secrets. You can’t completely love
someone without actually learning who they are and all the little things they
do and say. Once secrets are shared you also build a bond of trust which helps
with the relationship. I find this stage very important, especially to me, because
my partner and I work very hard on keeping trust and communication up due to
the distance. The last stage is commitment with marriage. I found this topic
interesting because I feel that a lot of people are in love with the idea of
love but don’t understand the concepts that coincide with it. Our generation
throws out the phrase “I love you’ so fast and if you know you know but I think
that you have to really get to know the person and all their ticks and things to
be able to truly fall in love with them and who they are underneath their skin.
