Another thing that I found interesting in chapter eighteen
was about stereotypes. We all know that growing up especially in high school
that we are placed into certain categories. The book stated an example about African
Americans falling deeper into their stereotypes because they are more focused
on their egotism. This correlates with a lot of things, especially to the
fact that our society is always consumed on the amount of likes we get on
facebook or what people think or say about us. Although I strongly believe that
society as a whole affects the stereotype growth, I also think there are other
factors; one being the fact that if you hang out with a certain stereotype such
as the typical “stoner” group, you will be more influenced by those kinds of
actions. This also can hold true to groups such as sororities with their pride
for their group. I don’t think that it always has to have a bad outcome but
stereotypes can keep other people from branching which can then isolate them
into that one world. Although there are certain types of personalities that
hang out with one another I wish there was more integration with people without
the fact of what club, race, gender they are. I think that it would really make
the world a better place and no one would feel so judged.
