I really enjoyed reading the thinking critically section in
Chapter 2 called “What’s a Mother For?” The whole article basically just talked
about newborns/children always seem to attach to their mother. They compared
two objects in this article: a child and infants monkeys. I really seemed to
enjoy this article because basically everyone has a special bond to their
mother but I just never really question why that is or is that true even at
all. Some of the theories stated in the passage were very plausible but then there
were just some that were very absurd.
I also found classical conditioning very interesting. That
was one topic I enjoyed learning about in my sociology class in high school. I
always found the experiment that Pavlov did of classical conditioning on the
dogs fascinating. I did some further research on classical conditioning and
found some fun facts. It stated in the article that “the tasty appearance of unnatural-looking and pretty odorless
foods like Twizzlers, lollipops, candy canes, and plastic-looking cakes (see
photo at bottom) owe their attractive, incentivized properties to the process
of classical conditioning”. (www.psychologytoday.com)
