Chapter 6 Post #2
In post number one I posted about learning about the "little scientist", which was something I found very interesting in the beginning of the chapter. Now I want to focus on what I learned all together through out the chapter and what I didn't know before. While watching the video in our discussions and comparing it to the chapter, I learned that babies go through different types of communications as they develop. I always wanted to know why babies have a desire to babble random words and make weird noises but now I know that is because of the stages they go through. I also learned that the way we talk to babies actually has a specific name called "child directed speech". Child directed speech is the "high pitched, simplified, and repetitive way adults speak to infants." I always noticed when there is a baby around that we all talk to babies in high pitched noise to get their attention, but I never knew it had a real name. When babies go through development they go through different types of communication as well. When they are 6-9 months they are babbling. Babbling happens because they get responses out of the ones they are talking to, and sometimes the people around them encourage babbling. When the babies start reaching the age of 1 that's when babies start saying their first words. Then after that, that's when babies start to gradually make their way into communication. I think this is so interesting because I always wanted to know why babies talked the way they do and it is because of their language development. Now I know the meaning behind their babbling and why it takes them a while to start saying their first words. Overall, a very interesting and informative chapter.
