I just joined this blog because I am new to the class so I am a few blogs behind! However I am just going to write one big blog to catch up with everyone! All the chapters were very interesting but for me theories always seemed to be the subject to catch my eye. This week I was also catching up on the discussions and I just finished discussion 2 and thinking about our own theories. Theories are really interesting to me because it really gets you thinking about the ways in which we act and feel and the meanings behind them. Some people I know think the study of psychology through development isn't important, but to me I think theories are very interesting. It's interesting to know why we act a certain way, or why we would do weird things when we were little because of our behavior and learning process. I find it interesting that there are reasons behind the things we do and it is not just a book of assumptions. To me, having reasons, research and solving the problems gives me a piece of mind. I was saying in my discussion that learning more about developmental psychology in infants helps you when one day you'll have a kid and have answers to why they put things in their mouth and when they can start making decisions. It amazes me how right when we our born our brains are already in work to start observing and learning. Overall development and theories really caught my eye because it made me think. If we didn't have these theories we would think things happen just because and never have any meaning. Having theories makes it interesting and makes it an open area where people can keep studying babies and kids developing because they already have some answers. Thinking about your own theories too and the study of development can vary between a lot of opinions and to me that is something unique. Even though most babies go through the same developmental cycle, the different perceptions you have on it, the different the child may be. In other words I think that its cool that in psychology it is like never endless. I feel that theories don't just stop, they are there in history but the more we grow in technology and invent new studies, the more we might find. To me psychology is like a never endless study and since we have good research in the history of psychology, we can use that to fuel our research. Without it we could have a million people saying this is how babies act and this is what they do. Since we have history and research background we won't be making new theories but contributing to them. I just admire all theories and research done to prove how amazing the mind is and I love that no matter how old theories and history is, it still in contributed through today's studies. Theories and development are unique because we can never change what was once wrote but we can contribute more of what we learn. With that said psychology is just a never endless life of learning, because their are new discoveries made through out the years that will be continued for a long time. In conclusion I loved both the chapters on development and theories because it is so interesting how the human brain works.
