Chapter 2
The topic of sociocultural theory in chapter 2 really interested me! The definition of sociocultural theory is an emergent theory that holds that development results from the dynamic interaction of each person with the surrounding and cultural forces. The leading development in this theory is Barbara Rogoff. Social interaction has Lev Vygotsky as it's leader. He was mainly interested in the cognitive development among cultural and ethnically diverse people, as well as mentally retarded children. Apprenticeship in thinking is how cognition is stimulated and developed in people by older and more skilled members of society. The candy dish example was very interesting. If a young kid is with his mom in the presence of a teacher he would most likely be scared, unless his mom says yes.
