Chapter 2: Post #1.

In chapter 2, I was very interested in the topic of the social learning theory, which shows the influence that other people have over someone else's behavior. People learn many things through observation because they are often watching someone else do something in order to fully understand it themselves. Our text talks about modeling when discussing the social learning theory, where it begins to occur in childhood, although we still continue to use it in our daily lives. Social learning deals with our interpretations of the experiences that we have, but it also shows that we often learn from each other. The subject of self-efficacy in social learning is very interesting as well. It is the belief that people have the ability to change themselves. For example, people might have motivation to change themselves once they see a friend strive toward something and succeed, showing you that you can have the possibility of doing that yourself also. It's amazing how this topic can show us how much others influence our behavior, and make us act a certain way or do things that we wouldn't normally do. Seeing someone succeed in something teaches one to have high hopes for themselves. Those experiences that we have almost fuel our motivation to change and continue to develop to create better lives. That's so interesting to me, and hopefully it is to everyone else as well!

  1. Hey Emily! I totally agree with you, this portion of the social theory is very interesting. I myself am a hands on learner, I need to see and experience something in order to fully understand something. The subject of self-efficacy is also very interesting, that people do have the ability to change themselves, and the people around them hold the influence and the power to inspire them to do so. Very cool stuff.

  2. I have to say I will look over that section again in the book. After reading your summery about it, I started to think that maybe its something to look at doing in my life not just study. I like the idea of having a support group but the problem with me is trying to find another were I go for school or work. I do not expect people to be primary group people but something close to it for support and relief. But, regardless I will look this over again and a question what made this stand out for you just interest or is there a experience tide to it?

  3. Well, it's a little bit of both for me! I'm always interested in studying and observing people and how they interact with each other. But, I can definitely relate to the subject as well in many ways. I have a lot of people that influence me and my behavior, sometimes for the better, and sometimes for the worse. Normally, if I am able to witness someone succeed in something, it often motivates me to want to follow in their footsteps and see how it might work out for me, and if I can gain the same success.
